There are a lot of reasons why you should make sure to take proper care of your HVAC system. Neglecting certain areas of its care can lead to all kinds of problems ranging from higher electric bills and unnecessary HVAC repair bills to triggering allergies and dealing with uncomfortable temperatures in your home. This article will go over the problems not maintaining your HVAC system can bring and ways they could have been avoided.
Higher electric bills – When you don't care for your HVAC system the way you should, it can cause the system to work harder and longer for it to reach the temperature you set the thermostat to. The more the unit works, the more power it draws which leads to the increase in your monthly bills. One of the easiest ways to prevent those increased bills is to keep the filter clean. Imagine a filter full of dust and how thick that dust can get after a long period of not being cleaned off. The unit won't be able to easily draw air through itself. Instead, it will have to work much harder to bring in the same amount of air it would bring in through a clean filter.
Higher repair bills – If you don't keep the filter cleaned and if you ignore red flags that may be warning you of problems, then your system will continue to work through them which can put added stress on other parts of the unit. The end result can be everything from more parts needing replacement to a complete breakdown of the motor. What may have started as one worn part or a clogged filter can end up turning into many worn parts or you needing to replace the entire unit, which can cost you a lot of money.
The triggering of allergies – When you have someone in your home who suffers from allergies, you want to keep the home as free as possible from things like pet dander, pollen, dust and other allergens. When you allow the HVAC filter to go uncleaned and you don't have the ducts cleaned when they are in need of it, the unit will have no choice but to throw more allergens out into the rooms through the registers. Those allergens will stir around in the air which makes it easy for an allergy sufferer to be triggered.
Uneven temperatures – An HVAC system that isn't working how it should can have a hard time achieving the temperature you have set the system for on the thermostat. You may find none of the home gets to where you want it, or certain areas have a hard time achieving the desired temperature. Sometimes, there can be blockages in the ducts or leaks in the system that cause this problem, and this is where routine maintenance from a technician can help out. They can spot these issues right away, so you don't have to deal with this type of problem for very long, or even at all.

Hi there, my name is Shelley. Welcome to my site about electric heating systems. Electric heat has recently fallen out of favor due to the efficiency of natural gas systems. Electric heat is still suitable for small buildings that do not need the high temps provided by upgraded systems. I will use this site to explore all of the building types that can benefit from electric heating systems. I will also share information about system components, installations and repairs. I welcome you to come by often to learn more about this exciting topic. Thanks for coming by. See you soon.
