Tips To Keep Your Residential Air Conditioning System In Top Condition

Blog

Your residential air conditioning system requires regular maintenance to function effectively throughout its years of service. Besides, maintaining your AC unit is a great way to extend its lifespan and save money on costly replacements and repairs. Neglecting your AC unit means your energy cost will go up, and its efficiency will decline. That said, compiled are some tips that should help you keep your unit in top shape.

Change Your Filters

Can you remember the last time you did a filter change? Well, if a few months have passed, it means your filters are due for a change. Dirty filters are a problem as they are notorious for reducing airflow into your system. This problem will also put an unnecessary strain on your system; thus reducing its efficiency. You can, however, avoid all these AC problems by cleaning or changing the filter more often.

Call in an AC Expert for Regular Maintenance

While you can do your part to keep the AC unit in top condition, you should also give experts a chance to service the system. The technician will fix any problems that are cropping up in the system. During the technician's routine visits, the technician will:

  • Seal duct leakage
  • Inspect electric terminals
  • Clean and tighten connections
  • Measure airflow
  • Check the accuracy of your thermostat
  • Test for refrigerant leaks

If you can't keep up with AC maintenance schedules, have a service technician do it for a small fee.

Clean the Evaporator Coil

Your evaporator coils also get dirty with time and need to be cleaned, too. You are advised to clean the coil more often to minimize the chances of dirt and debris accumulating on the coil. Try using compressed air to blow dirt and debris loose from the coil.

However, if the dirt accumulation is too much, use a brush and commercial cleaners. Sometimes cleaning the evaporator coil can prove difficult, meaning you might have to call for residential AC services.

Clean the Area Around Your Outdoor Unit

Most homeowners tend to focus more on the indoor unit and neglect the outdoor unit. This means plants will grow near the unit, and pests will build homes on it. Both scenarios will interfere with the efficiency of the AC unit. That said, you need to clear any vegetation growing near the outdoor unit. Also, make a point of cleaning the outdoor unit to prevent dust build-up.

If you can heed this advice, your air conditioner will remain in top shape during its years of service. Contact a local HVAC contractor to learn more about your air conditioning unit.

Talking About Electric Heating Systems

Hi there, my name is Shelley. Welcome to my site about electric heating systems. Electric heat has recently fallen out of favor due to the efficiency of natural gas systems. Electric heat is still suitable for small buildings that do not need the high temps provided by upgraded systems. I will use this site to explore all of the building types that can benefit from electric heating systems. I will also share information about system components, installations and repairs. I welcome you to come by often to learn more about this exciting topic. Thanks for coming by. See you soon.
